The Hilton Molino Stucky, on the Venetian island of Giudecca, wins our pick for the best place to stay in Venice. The hotel not only provides fantastic amenities like a rooftop restaurant and bar with views of Venice, a rooftop swimming pool, a Hilton Honors executive lounge with one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve ever had, and comfortable rooms in a remodeled flour mill. The Hilton Molino Stucky also provides a water taxi shuttle to and from St. Mark’s Square and sits just 10 minutes from St. Mark’s and the bus terminal near the ship docks, so you’re only ever about 10-15 minutes from any point of departure and adventure in Venice. The island of Giudecca is a tranquil place to stay away from the throngs of tourists around Piazza San Marcos, but also just a quick water taxi ride away. One of the most critical choices to make when exploring a new city is where to stay. Oftentimes we will stay in smaller hotels or hostels located in the heart of European cities, just to be close to everything and within walking distance of our favorite places in London, Paris, Vienna, and more. There are hundreds of hotels, hostels, and VRBO options available if you want to stay somewhere overlooking St. Mark’s Square or on a side canal on the main island or along the Grand Canal. This trip, though, we decided to balance convenience, comfort, and location when choosing a place to stay in Venice. And we made a great choice when we booked the Hilton Molino Stucky as the base of our explorations in Venice.

The Best Place to Stay in Venice – Views for Days!
The Best Views of Venice, all From Your Hotel Room
The Hilton Molino Stucky sits at the far corner of the island of Giudecca, the site of a former flour mill. The completely renovated and developed property boasts some of the best views of Venice in all directions, due to its height and location at the edge of the islands. Add to that the rooftop bar, restaurant, and swimming pool, and you’ve got one of the most scenic hotel views in all of Venice. We booked an inward-facing guest room on the 5th floor that looks down into the inner courtyard just below the swimming pool and rooftop restaurant. The rooms are spacious, with gorgeous wooden beams and travertine tile bathrooms. Double glass doors open to private balconies, so you can take in the full view. For a similar room we’ve seen prices as low as US$157 per night, though in the peak season, rooms can average closer to US$300 or more per night.

The Hilton Molino Stucky abuts the convention center near the Academy Gallery, at the Western end of Giudecca Island. With more than 375 smoke-free guest rooms, a 24-hour health club, free internet, and a hop-on/hop-off shuttle to and from St. Mark’s Square (the shuttle costs about US$8 per person for the length of your stay), the Hilton Molino Stucky has everything you’ll need to relax and unwind after long days of walking around Venice, sipping Spritzes, and taking in all the historical sites. In fact, staying at the historical flour mill, you’ll be enjoying another part of Venice’s storied history while you relax in the comfort of your room or overlooking the city from the rooftop bar.

The Hilton Molino Stucky may provide some of the best luxury accommodation in Venice, but it’s also just a few steps from charming Venetian streets, canals, shops, and restaurants. We love spending time in and around the Piazza San Marcos, but for a different view, you can’t beat the quiet waterfront restaurants and coffee shops that look back to San Marcos. The island of Giudecca consists mostly of private homes and neighborhoods, along with several historical churches and other buildings that are now a collection of museums, restaurants, and shops. Giudecca is a great alternative to the busy streets of San Marcos and the neighborhoods that line the Grand Canal. Unlike San Marcos, you’ll find a little more space to breathe over here! We really enjoyed the contrast between the islands, from the busy, crowded streets near the basilica and the Doge’s Palace to the quiet, waterfront coffee shops a short walk from Molino Stucky.
