A view of the main stone structure at the Pre-Colombian Mayan ruins at Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The stone structure sits on a cliff overlooking the turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. A white sand beach, rock outcroppings, and dark green foliage fill the foreground.

No matter how engaged and interested a visitor you are at the ruins of Tulum, your mind and body will need a break after taking in all that the archaeological zone has to offer. That’s why we recommend the best beach in Tulum: Playa Paraíso, quite possibly the most perfect white sand beach in all of Yucatán. And that’s saying something, because we’ve been to a lot of beaches in Yucatán. And this beach is incredible. Paradise Beach is so beautiful that these photos required no editing; I literally could not improve on the natural beauty of Playa Paraíso. If for no other reason, plan to spend the afternoon here because it is likely to create a strong sense of pure joy and elation, no matter your prior mental state. There is a reason it’s called paradise; you don’t need to look any further to find the perfect beach.

Look at those faces: pure joy and happiness

Take our word for it: Playa Paraíso is the BEST beach in all of Yucatán. I suppose you might be able to scout out a secluded cove in an untouched corner of the Mayan Riviera, but those spots are few and far between. Paradise Beach has a good mix of wide, open white sand beach, a few restaurant options nearby, and a relaxed vibe without the crowds you’re likely to get in Playa or Cancún. And even though nothing can beat the feel of Costa Rica’s chill surfing beaches, this is a close second.

I’m sitting here under the shade of a wind-blown palm tree, wrapped in the Yucatán’s humid afternoon air, watching the girls play in the warm waves of the Caribbean. I’ve been to a lot of beautiful places, but this is truly one of the very best. Welcome to Paradise!

How would you say the beaches compare to other popular tourist areas in Mexico such as Cancun?

We feel that the popular tourist areas almost lend themselves to the worst beach experiences due to overcrowding. The views are always beautiful but the crowds and vendors make it difficult to relax. If you are an adventurous traveler ask a local for a recommendation, they generally know of alternative nontouristy options for beaches.

This is literally the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. It’s so glad to see that you traveled to Mexico with your children. I’m a new mother, and I’m always happy to see parents traveling with their young ones, it gives me the confidence to do more myself!

I am so glad our family adventure inspired you! Yes, being a new mother will make you a little more of a cautious mamma bear. Keep testing and stretching yourself and soon traveling with kids is just what you do! Your kiddo will thank you and you will be so very proud of yourself.

This beach looks incredible! Love the semi-secluded feel and the white sands. It’s always nice to be able to feel like the beach isn’t being completely overrun by crowds!
